Mark Tagliaferri
Chairman
Mark was previously a Managing Partner and Co-founder of GI Partners Europe, a private equity business founded in 2001 to invest in operationally intensive real estate platforms in the US and Europe.
Mark has sat on the investment committees of GI Partners Fund I, Fund II and Fund III which were collectively responsible for deploying $4bn into 40+ investments. During this period, he has sat on the Board of eight of its portfolio companies including Urban & Civic Plc, a company he Co-founded and led GI Partners’ investment in. Urban & Civic Plc is a business specialising in land acquisition and planning gain. Since its inception in 2009 it has achieved planning consents for 33,000 residential homes and over 3m sq ft of commercial space. The GI Partners investment in Urban & Civic generated a 2.5x cash on cash multiple and a 13% IRR.
Prior to joining GI Partners, he spent six years with Nomura, after which he served as a Senior Partner at Terra Firma Capital Partners. At Nomura/Terra Firma, Mr. Tagliaferri assisted in the investment and oversight of approximately $3bn of equity capital invested in European businesses and properties. Previously, he was Founder and Chief Executive of Dawnay Day Corporate Finance, which was ranked in the top five U.K. mergers and acquisitions boutiques during his tenure. His early career was with Deloitte & Touche, where he finished as head of its London M&A Advisory Practice.
Mark sits on the Executive Board of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the Advisory Board of the Cambridge University Department of Land Economy. He received a BS cum laude, in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Mohammed Afkhami
Vice Chairman
Mohammed has 25 years finance and property experience. He is the founder and Managing Partner of Magenta Capital Services, the largest independent placement of private alternative assets in the GCC having placed over $35bn of AUM. He is the founder and Managing Partner of MA Partners DMCC, a Middle East based commodities consultancy that acted as the exclusive Middle East Advisor between 2005-12 to Mitsui Energy Risk Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui & Co.
Previously Mohammed held senior positions covering the Middle East and North Africa for Standard Bank, O’Connor & Associates and UBS Warburg where he covered corporations, hedge funds and sovereign institutions providing structured finance and derivatives.
Mohammed is the Co-chairman of the Guggenheim Middle East & North Africa (MENA) Acquisition Committee), a founder member of the British Museum MENA Acquisition Committee, a patron of the Agha Khan Museum, on the David Rockefeller council at the MOMA, New York, an advisory board member of Art Dubai, a member of the Friends of Centre Pompidou and is Chairman of the Mohammed Afkhami Foundation.
He obtained his BA in Economics with a concentration in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and currently sits on the international advisory board of the Huntsman Program.
Ash Griffiths
Managing Director
Ash has 20 years property experience. Previously a Partner of Strutt and Parker (now BNP Paribas) whom he joined in 2013. While there he was responsible for selling and acquiring sites for house builders and developers in the Greater London area, along with advising on strategic development opportunities/planning permissions for landowners in South East England. Prior to joining Strutt and Parker, Ash Founded and Managed Aurora Property Developments, a Leeds based property development company focused on office, industrial and mixed-use developments. Ash’s early career was spent in London with Strutt and Parker and King Sturge (now Jones Lang LaSalle).
He received a BSc (Hons) in Real Estate Management from Oxford Brookes University and is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He is a Board Member of the Land Planning and Developers Federation (LPDF), a Member of The Urban Land Institute, where he is part of the Residential Council and he is also a Non-Executive Director of Addland, a proptech company.
Daniel Cavanagh
Managing Director
Daniel has 20 years finance and property experience. Previously he was a Director of GI Partners, a private equity business focused on acquiring operationally intensive real estate platforms in the US and Europe. While there he was responsible for making and overseeing five investments, including U&C with Mark Tagliaferri, and was involved in more than £1bn worth of transactions. Prior to GI Partners, Daniel worked in the principal finance team at Bank of Scotland and was involved in making investments which deployed £1bn of capital.
He received an MA (Hons) in Economics and Politics from the University of Edinburgh.
Jason Houslander
Executive Director
Jason has 15 years of property experience. He is responsible for deal origination and overseeing investments. He has over a decade of real estate planning and development experience with a focus on mixed-use and residential projects. Previously he was at Cushman & Wakefield where he advised corporate clients involved in large development projects.
He is experienced in acquisitions, planning, design, project delivery and adding strategic value to investments.
He received BA (Hons) in Architecture from the University of Manchester and is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
Chris Worrall
Director
Chris has 15 years of property experience. Previously he was an Investment Manager at Thor Equities where he was responsible for sourcing, financing, and asset management of value-add and opportunistic real estate transactions. He has also previously worked for Quintain a leading Build-to-Rent developer owned by Lone Star Funds and a senior living developer backed by Legal and General Capital.
He received a MPhil in Real Estate Finance from the University of Cambridge and received a First-Class BSc (Hons) in Project Management for Construction, and a HND in Construction from the College of North West London.
He is part of the National Executive Committee for the Labour Housing Group and Chair’s the Fabian Society Local Government and Housing Member Policy Group.
Nick Ttarou
Finance Director
Nick joined LSL partners as Head of Finance end of November 2022. A Financial professional who has worked in diverse businesses and sectors, helping them grow and expand, solving problems, setting up and building teams, companies, systems & processes, and reporting.
With 12 years in the property sector with Chesterton’s, Johns & Co and Residential Land, Nick strengthens our team and is responsible for treasury, reporting, Tax & Audit of the Companies and Funds.
Moshe Feldman
Investor Relations
Moshe joined LSL Partners in February 2021 as Head of Investor Relations. Moshe was previously a Manager at Preqin where he focused on building and maintaining investor relationships. The role involved providing a wide range of services for limited partners as well as leading strategic initiatives. Moshe spent many years working for various government roles executing compliance and regulatory initiatives.
He received a MSc from the London School of Economics and a BA from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Mandy Mellet
Secretary / Office Administrator
Mandy joined LSL Partners in October 2020 as the Office Manager. Previously Mandy worked as the HR Manager and Bookkeeper for Sherwood Pumps Ltd.
Steve Quartermain
Advisory Committee
Steve became Chief Planner for England, working for the Government, in 2008. Steve was instrumental in helping to transform the Planning system in England most notably through the creation of the NPPF and the on-line planning guidance.
Steve stepped down in 2020 and now has a varied portfolio of activities including supporting the University of Kent, Advising Women in planning, Chairing Populo Housing and attending as an independent member of the planning committee at OPDC, as well as giving strategic advice to Town Legal, hgh consultancy and the LPDF.
Marcovecchio Massimo
Advisory Committee
Massimo has over 35 years of experience in the real estate industry, He is a Chartered Building Surveyor by background, and also holds an MBA, ACIOB and MCABE Chartered Building Engineer.
He joined Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) in 2008 and was appointed Chief Operating Officer in 2015, with the day- to-day operational responsibility of the business and business performance and has led LSH’s previous acquisitions.
Prior to LSH, Massimo had roles with Carpathian Plc, Dawnay Day, Rotch Property Group, Daniel Smith and Legal & general. Massimo has also served as non-executive Director with Network Housing Group and King Street Housing Association.
Natasha Tagliaferri
Analyst
Natasha joined LSL Partners in August 2023. Previously, she was at Morgan Stanley in the Institutional Equities Division (IED) as a Sales Trader in the Derivatives Group. Additionally, she has interned at Boussard & Gavaudan, a hedge fund based in London/Paris and at Patron Capital, a real estate private equity firm based in London.
She received a BSc summa cum laude, in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, with concentrations in Finance and Real Estate and a minor in Italian.
Henry Blomfield
Analyst
Henry joined LSL Partners in July 2023. Previously he was at Colmore Capital, where he focused on BtR, office and industrial investment opportunities within the Midlands region. Additionally he actively participated in asset management, with a strong emphasis on ESG principles, which encompassed coordinating the implementation of photovoltaic panels and electric charging infrastructure.
He received a BSc in Investment and Finance in Property from the University of Reading.
Karen Alcock
Advisory Committee
Karen Alcock has worked in regeneration and planning for over fifteen years, living and breathing London politics for over two decades. She has worked as a parliamentary researcher, a public affairs adviser at Transport for London, public affairs and communications consultant as well as spending twelve years as a senior Councillor in Hackney including eight years in Cabinet and as Deputy Mayor.
At Hackney as Deputy Mayor, Karen worked on the first phases of Woodberry Down, one of the largest regeneration projects in London as well as overseeing planning on thirteen sites across the Borough providing over 3000 homes. Working with the senior leadership she is very proud to be part of the Borough’s journey which was recently voted the Most Improved Council in the last Twenty Years.
Karen has established political links across London with an in-depth understanding of the particular issues facing London boroughs. She provides political counsel, liaison and insight at local and GLA level. She has spent the last four years as Managing Director of a large planning communications team where she worked directly with clients delivering some of the most innovative, complex and challenging sites in London.
Karen is also a member of the Development and New Business Committee at Notting Hill Housing Group.
Robin Hoyles
Advisory Committee
Robin Hoyles has 40 years of experience in residential development, strategic land assembly and planning and building new communities. He spent 20 years as a solicitor in private practice in London acting for a number of major developers. He then joined Countryside Properties and spent 17 years as Managing Director of Countryside Strategic Projects before joining Crest Nicholson PLC in 2011 as Group Land and Planning Director. Robin has a huge range of knowledge and expertise of the legal, planning, financial, management and delivery of major new housing communities. He retired from Crest Nicholson at the end of 2019.
Jon Lovell
Advisory Committee
Jon specialises in providing advice, education and independent challenge on responsible and impactful investment strategy, urban futures, foresight and risk management, ESG policy and sustainability to clients ranging from global institutional investment managers, PE firms and FTSE 100 companies to governmental and industry bodies around the world. He has a proven track-record of strong leadership, distinctive vision, effective partnership working and persuasive advocacy across the ESG agenda, which he combines in the pursuit of urgent and progressive change across the real estate and wider built environment sector.
Jon’s role as an advisor is complemented by a number of independent roles, both for individual real estate organisations, as well as for industry groups and charities. He sits on the ESG and responsible property investment committees of BMO Real Estate Partners, Round Hill Capital and Royal London, and is heavily involved in the ULI, including as a past member of its UK Advisory Board and as former chair of the Sustainability Council. He is currently President of a European federation of disability charities and a Trustee and Company Secretary of the Williams Syndrome Foundation in the UK.
Prior to launching Hillbreak with his long-term colleague, Miles Keeping, Jon led the global real estate sustainability function at Deloitte and prior to that he was Head of Sustainability at commercial property firm, Drivers Jonas.
